Our FitStar of the week is a familiar face: Nick Price from Oregon. Nick was named a FitStar Hero in March 2014 and we filmed a video documenting his success with FitStar. One year later, Nick recently completed his 300th FitStar session! We spoke with Nick to catch-up on how he’s been progressing and what this milestone means to him.
1. We featured your FitStar Hero video in March 2014. One year later, can you give us an update on yourself and how your health and fitness has progressed?
Unfortunately, I suffered a broken ankle before the video was filmed. When we filmed the video I did not know I was running around on a broken ankle. At the time, I thought it was just a sprain and you can see my ace bandage in the video. I re-broke the ankle hiking the Gettysburg battlefield in July and my orthopedist limited my workout options until November. I gained a little weight back and I have just started to get back to where I was when the video was filmed. FitStar has really helped me “break even” in the previous few months. FitStar’s interface has kept me accountable with the status circle (that shows your weekly progress) and with the FitStar Challenges, I have managed to keep my head above water.
2. You recently completed 300 FitStar sessions. Can you tell us what that accomplishment means to you?
300 is a good mark because I started FitStar about 600 days ago. If we do the math on that, I have worked out every other day for the past year and 7 months, which is a lot more physical activity than I have done before. Now, that I have recovered, I feel like I want to do 300 more workouts just to keep improving my technique and maximize every workout. Even though I kept most of my weight off, I feel like I am starting over again and I love the challenge.
3. Why do you think you’ve been able to stick with FitStar on a long-term basis?
The ever changing workouts that FitStar provides and reminders are what keep me going. I am a very visual person and FitStar really keeps me engaged and gives me a variety of options. This is opposed to going to the gym, where I would just do a few lifts and stare off in to space for X amount of hours, and accomplish less. Once you’re familiar with the interface, FitStar makes the workouts efficient and the users get a better workout through the Program options. I can do my main workout and supplement it with a Freestyle or two and use up less time during the day.
4. What future health and fitness goals do you hope to achieve next?
I want to be able to fit in to my size 34 pants comfortably again, but I also would not mind a six pack. I want to be able to do a pull-up!
5. What tips or advice do you have for others that may help get them started or keep going?
In the quest for fitness, one must only worry about what they have the ability to control at that moment in time and set small metrics in order to get started (finish the set, finish the workout, finish the week). Throughout your fitness journey little wins will amount to big victories. Can you lose 30 lbs in a week? Probably not, but if you set yourself up with attainable goals day by day , week by week, month by month, you will be amazed at what happens. FitStar will help you set and achieve your goals!
