Our FitStar of the week is Aishling (Ash) Peoples from Edinburgh, Scotland. Ash has been hard at work this past year with FitStar and has dropped around 50 lbs! She has also become more active by entering obstacle races and has been improving her diet.

Here are five facts you need to know about FitStar: Ash Peoples.

1.  How long have you been using FitStar and what Program do you use?

I’ve been using FitStar for just under a year. I think I had it for a week, maybe two, before I signed up for the yearly Premium. I had really enjoyed the free workouts and had figured if I subscribed I’d be more likely to stay committed to it and would also get access to the extra workouts. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the Tough Mudder and Boot Camp Freestyle Sessions.

2. What’s your FitStar story?

I had decided just over a year ago that I had needed to get back in shape. When I was a teenager I used to run cross country but as I got older my knees started to bother me so I pretty much stopped all physical activity. So last year when I reached the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life, around 191-192 lbs, I decided I needed to do something.

My first step was to actually buy a Fitbit Flex. After I’d gotten it, I started searching for exercise apps and then found FitStar in the App Store under recommended and thought, why not? I used a few of the free workouts and really enjoyed them, plus it was nice that they varied in timescales, since back then the last thing I wanted after a 12 hour shift was to spend 30 minutes on a workout. I also loved the fact that I didn’t have to get any equipment. Although I have ended up buying a few items like a pull-up bar.

3. Why is FitStar a good fit for you?

I work in a job where I can either be standing for long periods of time or sitting for even longer periods. I’ve gone to the gym before and I know it’s not for me so I looked into methods of working out at home. Plus working on my diet, which I’m still perfecting. I used to eat a lot of takeaways and pizza. I still do on the odd occasion but nowhere near as much as I did last year.

4. What have you gained by using FitStar?

Using FitStar has helped me not only to keep up my exercise regime, but it’s also helped me lose the weight that I hadn’t been happy about. I’m currently around 143 lbs and I’m not done yet. Even though there have been times where I’ve just wanted to give up, I didn’t because the app is enjoyable, fun and there isn’t any pressure if I skip a day. Although now if I miss or skip a workout I feel bad. I actually hurt my ankle last week and felt horrid for the three days I didn’t get to workout.

One of my goals, besides weight loss, was to go be more active and obstacle races have always looked like fun. So earlier this year I signed up for my first Spartan Race and just kept doing both workouts in advance. I still hate burpees but FitStar did help me get prepared. I’m even planning on signing up for the Trifecta next year!

5. What tips or advice do you have for others that may help get them started or keep going?

To anyone else out there wanting to get in shape or workout, I can only say to keep at it. If you don’t have FitStar, get it and try it out. You have nothing to lose by giving it a go and I’d bet that you’ll love it just as much as I do!! I know it can be a struggle at times, but the only person stopping you from achieving something is yourself. Diets and working out can be a complete pain, but I feel a million times better now and I can see the results. There is a lot of help and support available and FitStar is one of those wonderful apps that does actually help!

Has using FitStar kept you committed to weight loss and your exercise regime?

Keep Moving!

I was overweight and tried so many things. Different things work for different people and I was lucky enough to find one that worked for me. I lost 20 pounds in one month without any exercise and it’s been a life changer. I’m a little embarrased to post my before and after photos here but if anyone actually cares to hear what I’ve been doing then I’d be happy to help in any way. Just shoot me an email at oceanflowers82@gmail.com and I’ll show you my before and after photos, and tell you about how things are going for me with the stuff I’ve tried. I wish someone would have helped me out when I was struggling to find a solution so if I can help you then it would make my day
