Whether you’re getting together with friends to watch the big game, or you’re hanging out on a quiet afternoon, these healthy homemade dips will brighten up your snack plate! Team Fitstar is all about the homemade dips as appetizers for entertaining company or to level up your sandwich spreads. Below are four go-tos for a quick, easy and light dish to put out for when guests arrive, or when you’re looking for a new dip to dig into.

Healthier Spinach Dip
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 cup spinach (you can also use kale, chard or whatever else you have on hand)
1 garlic clove, finely minced
salt and pepper to taste

1. Sautée greens with garlic until wilted and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
2. Mix ricotta cheese with greens in a shallow, oven-safe dish. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
3. Bake at 425 degrees until the top is light golden brown, about 12 minutes.

Serving suggestion: with crostini or herbaceous crackers.

Easy Peasy Dip
1/2 cup frozen peas
1 Tablespoon chopped fresh mint
2 teaspoons fresh lime juice<

Combine all ingredients in small food processor. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serving suggestion: with flat, thin pretzels.

Greek Yogurt Snack Dip
16 oz. (about 2 cups) low-fat Greek yogurt
1/2 cup walnuts, plus more for garnish
3 tbsp fresh chopped dill
1 tsp minced fresh garlic
salt and pepper to taste

1. Pour Greek yogurt, walnuts, dill and garlic into a food processor.
2. Blend for 60 seconds, scraping the sides periodically, until the mixture turns thick and the walnuts are well crushed.
3. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Blend again until smooth. (a little texture from the walnuts is okay)
4. Chill dip thoroughly before serving. The more it chills, the thicker and richer the dip becomes.
5. Garnish with chopped walnuts.

Serving suggestion: with fresh chopped veggies such as carrots, celery and peppers.

Lemon and Rosemary Ricotta Dip
2 cups ricotta cheese
1 garlic clove, finely minced
1 sprig of rosemary, finely chopped + 1 for garnish
zest of 1 lemon
olive oil
red chili flakes
salt and pepper to taste

1. In an oven-proof bowl, mix ricotta cheese, garlic, rosemary, lemon zest, pinch of red chili flakes, salt, pepper, and 3 Tablespoons of olive oil.
2. Bake at 375 until golden, about 15 to 20 minutes.
3. Transfer dip to a serving bowl then drizzle with olive oil and top with a sprig of rosemary.

Serving suggestion: with thinly sliced baguette. (To make even more amazing, place on baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and add to the oven for 5-7 minutes.)
